FAST AND FLEXIBLE – 3D METAL PRINTING AS SOLUTION FOR PROTOTYPING
3D metal printing convinces with short production times while meeting high precision, stability and geometry requirements in small quantities and thus exactly fulfils the prototyping character of today’s industry. 3D metal printing is therefore an ideal alternative to conventional manufacturing processes such as milling, turning or casting, especially for small parts.
CHALLENGE IN CUSTOMER PROJECTS
For a customer project, QUO engineers were recently faced with the task of designing a small part to be adapted to an existing system. The challenge here was that different individual parts in the design had to interact with each other and that the part to be developed had to have a high degree of accuracy with a small overall dimension.
In order to present the design to the customer and also to carry out initial functional tests, the so-called proof-of-concept, it was decided to produce the component as a 3D metal print. This process is also suitable for the smallest dimensions, as the accuracy of the 3D printing process is very high.
