Industrial design, also called product design, is an integral part of product development at QUO AG. This is understood to be the holistic conceptual and creative development of a product. In the case of digital products, UX and UI design are the main focus.

As part of an interdisciplinary development team, the designers at QUO always pay particular attention to usability, i.e. user-friendliness and user application for the end user, during product development. But also during the integration of the product into the customer’s existing product range. In industrial design, the later field of application as well as the manufacturing, economic and constructional limits also play a role.

Product design therefore significantly contributes to product innovation, since a user-friendly and attractive design also plays an important role with regards to the marketability of the final product.

Industrial design begins with the definition of the goal

Every product development is roughly divided into three main phases: Planning, design and implementation. During the planning phase, the briefing and the first search for ideas take place, taking into account the target group, the market situation, trends and technological developments. Already at this point it is the task of Industrial Design to integrate the objectives regarding usability and design into the concept phase. The main work of the industrial designers then takes place in the design phase. In this phase, a detailed concept of the product is created and initial design drafts are created, right up to the first mock-ups. With this preliminary stage of prototypes the first functional tests and user tests can be carried out.

In the implementation phase, the “best” concept is detailed and CAD data is created for production. The prototype construction also falls into this phase.

To ensure successful product development, it is essential that product design and engineering work hand in hand from the beginning of the project. This is the only way to ensure that all design and material requirements as well as legal, economic and ecological conditions are met.
